Story #1: Priorities? CIA Using Spy Satellites for Climate Data

RUSH: We learned earlier this week, January 4th, that the CIA is now sharing data with climate scientists.  The CIA is now sharing data with people involved in a hoax: Global warming.  So what are Obama's priorities here?  Terrorism, it's a distraction. It's a political inconvenience.  Global warming, that's a real danger! That's what the CIA is working on.

Story #2: Charlie Cook: Significant Risk Dems Will Lose House

RUSH: Just checking out the blog, and I found this post from late this morning: "Veteran political analyst Charlie Cook," who is renowned inside the Beltway for his political report and his polling and prognostication, "says retirements are creating a 'vicious circle' for Democratic politicians. For the first time, he sees a significant risk that Democrats could lose the House this year if trends continue. (Somebody alert RNC Chairman Michael Steele)."  Here's what Cook says: "How many other wavering House -- or Senate -- Democrats will look at the past five weeks and decide that spending the rest of this year as a lame duck is more attractive than spending a horrific year fundraising, scarfing down fast food, and shaking hands -- all the while facing the very real possibility of losing in the end?

"When their party starts singing endless choruses of 'This is going to be a lousy year,' lawmakers can easily find themselves humming along.  Come November, Senate Democrats' 60-vote supermajority is toast. It is difficult, if not impossible, to see how Democrats could lose the Senate this year. But they have a 50-50 chance of ending up with fewer than 55 seats in the next Congress. ... But if Democrats suffer much more erosion in their 'Solid' and 'Likely' columns, control of the House will suddenly be up for grabs."

Story #3: Keep a Sharp Eye on Scott Brown in Massachusetts

RUSH: There's a very important special election coming up in Massachusetts on the 19th of January. This is for Ted Kennedy's seat, and a lot of people are shocked by how close this is.  Scott Brown (41 years old and a very attractive candidate in a number of ways) is inching ever closer to the favored Democrat Martha Coakley.  She didn't even campaign in December it was so thought to be in the bag.  She's now started running ads.  He's running ads accusing her of raising taxes and so forth.  She says it's a dirty personal attack.  I don't know how every time you tell the truth about Democrats it somehow is a dirty personal attack.  But Scott Brown is right.

Now, if this guy Brown happens to win... It's nine points right now -- and in Massachusetts, where there are a million plus more Democrats than Republicans, for any Republican to be within nine points here of Ted Kennedy's seat! I mean, they've even trotted out Ted Kennedy's widow to endorse Martha Coakley. Well, Charlie Cook says here: "A GOP upset -- or even a close loss by Scott Brown -- could likely trigger a new wave of Democratic retirements. Likewise, a smashing victory by Martha Coakley might slow the bleeding."  And people on the Democrat side are watching that race like hawks.

Story #4: Economist Under HHS Contract Touted Obamacare

RUSH: This is from  "MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, one of the leading academic defenders of health care reform, is taking heat for failing to disclose consistently that he was under contract with the Department of Health and Human Services while he was touting the Democrats' health proposals the media." Does the corruption never end on these people's side?  Is there anybody who honestly believes what the Democrats are selling without being paid to say it?  "Gruber, according to federal government documents, is under a $297,600 contract until next month to provide 'technical assistance' in evaluating health care reform proposals. He was under a $95,000 HHS contract before that. But while he was being paid to provide his services to HHS, he was also fending off health care reform critics in the media. Gruber was one of the prominent analysts to rebut an insurance industry report from PricewaterhouseCoopers in October saying premiums would shoot up if a health care bill passes."

So here you've got a dishonest economist, 'cause everybody knows premiums are going to go up. There's no way they can't.  The government's going to subsidize people who can't afford the mandatory insurance and the government's going to mandate that insurance companies sell insurance to people the day before they get a heart attack or the day they get a heart attack or for preexisting conditions.  I'm sorry, there's no way prices are going to come down.  Costs may come down for some Americans because they're going to be subsidized. That's a family of four under $88 grand, a single person under $43,000. If you're under those levels you're going to get subsidized, everybody else is going to be paying through the roof for the subsidies.  It's just absurd.  So PricewaterhouseCoopers does this analysis and comes out with this and here's this MIT economist refuting it because he's on the take!  You remember when Armstrong Williams was found to be involved in some Bush administration agency? All hell broke loose and Armstrong had to go out there and apologize and resign and they kept it up for a week or two about all these nefarious activities going on.  Again, this little bit of news is at

Story #5: US Pushes Foreign Gov'ts to Use Full-Body Scanners

RUSH: Look at this headline today in the Washington Post: "US to Push Foreign Governments to Use Full-Body Scanners at Airports."  Why, that ought to be easy.  Everybody loves Obama overseas, right?

Story #6: Cold Killing Florida Iguanas, Manatees, Sea Turtles

RUSH: Speaking of the cold, the cold weather spell is causing a serious problem for animals in Florida.  We talked about manatees yesterday. Now. Iguanas are falling off of tree limbs.  You know, reptiles are cold-blooded.  They have no way of staying warm. They're alive when they fall, they're just paralyzed. But this might actually not be a bad thing.  Iguanas are not native to Florida.  A bunch of people here buy them as pets and don't understand what they're getting, and these things get big, and they're going to be a nuisance.  So people let 'em go and they start propagating like crazy out there and they end up in people's yards. They can be quite scary. But my guess is a lot of people are running around trying to collect 'em and get rid of them because they have become an infestation kind of problem.

Manatees are also big problems down here and of course, ladies and gentlemen, wouldn't you know? Sea "Turtles seem to be the hardest hit, with some 200 rescued Thursday from St. Joseph's Bay in the Panhandle. They were brought to Gulf World Marine Park, where they will stay warm in a holding pool until they can be released back into more pleasant water. Along Florida's Atlantic Coast, 93 sea turtles were found floating a lagoon and experts said the cold water shocked their tropically inclined systems. Most were endangered green sea turtles who were sent to research facilities for some TLC." So it's not just human beings which are in trouble; it's animals as well.

Story #7: Harris Poll: McCain More Influential Than Rush in GOP

RUSH: By the way, ladies and gentlemen, you know, it has been said by the White House that I am the leader of the Republican Party.  They said that, Obama did, as far back as January or February.  And as you know, the State-Controlled Media picked it up and ran with it, that I am the Republican Party leader.  Not so fast.  A new Harris poll came out yesterday. It was 2,276 adults that were surveyed.  Sixty-four percent surveyed say that McCain is the leader of the Republican Party and that Newt and I are tied at 50%.  Sixty-four percent of these adults surveyed nationwide said McCain is influential in steering the direction of the party.  That's a 14-point edge over me and Newt, both of whom were rated as influential by 50% of all of those people polled.

You know, McCain is running for reelection in Arizona, and he's running an ad. He's running an ad that accuses Obama of trying to bankrupt the nation.  Well, now, that's pretty similar to what I say when I say all of this destruction of the private sector is on purpose.  He's pretty much saying the same thing.  Now, isn't it interesting when he says it? He says it in a campaign for reelection in Arizona.  He wouldn't dare say this in his campaign for the presidency. (McCain impression) "That's right, Limbaugh, because -- because I wasn't going to criticize Obama, I told you, it wasn't going to happen!"  Okay, fine.  So he has to criticize Obama now when he's not running against Obama. Obama is already in office so he can run around and hit Obama. He's right!  Obama is bankrupting the country.  There's no question about it.  But where was this? Where was this when we needed it?  It wasn't anywhere around.  It was dialed back and we couldn't go anywhere near that kind of story.

Story #8: Blaring Headline: Ex-Bush Lawyer Tried to Kill Wife

RUSH: Here's an interesting story. This is from AP from New Haven, Connecticut.  "A onetime top attorney to former President George W. Bush is accused of trying to kill his wife in their Connecticut home by beating her with a flashlight and choking her.  John Michael Farren, 57, is charged with strangulation and attempted murder. He was ordered held Thursday on $2 million bail." His lawyer called it "a tragic situation." "Farren, who was deputy White House counsel to" George W. Bush. Is that "top" attorney? Deputy White House Council to Bush? He "also worked on the campaign and transition to former President George H. W. Bush," and the headline of the story is: "Connecticut Police: Ex-Bush Lawyer Tried to Kill Wife."  Ex-Bush! Seems like everybody who ever worked for Bush over eight years who has an issue or a squabble or is nuts, will be used to tar Bush.

Story #9: Corrupt Democrat Mayor of Baltimore Resigns

RUSH: There's a story about how the mayor of Baltimore is having to leave office on a plea deal.  She's admitting that they've got enough evidence to charge her with perjury and a bunch of stuff, but a convoluted plea they give politicians. I read the whole story.  You never read that she's a Democrat.

Story #10: Conservative Ascendency: NJ Rejects Gay Marriage

RUSH: You think there's not a conservative ascendency going on? "New Jersey Senate rejects Bill Legalizing Gay Marriage -- The 20-14 vote defeating the measure followed an hour and a half of public debate inside the packed [New Jersey] Senate chamber. The nearly thousand supporters and opponents of the bill held rallies on the Statehouse steps. The measure fell seven votes short of the 21 needed for passage," and was it not a party-line vote.  Some Democrats voted against legalizing gay marriage.  Something is cooking out there.

Story #11:
Democrat Politburo to Visit GM Display at Auto Show

RUSH: This, folks, I cannot believe these people are doing this.  "Months after the government took large ownership stakes in General Motors, Chrysler and auto lender GMAC Financial Services, top lawmakers and members of the Obama administration will be taking a close look at their investment. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and others will meet with company executives, state and local leaders and tour vehicle displays Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit..." This is like the Soviet leaders. Gorbachev used to always go and look at the new weapons, always go look at the new ZiL limousines and the new Aleutian jets.  Obama's administration of Pelosi and Hoyer are going to go visit their own car companies' displays at the Detroit auto show?  That's gotta be a mistake.  It'll be reminding Americans that they own General Motors and Chrysler.

That's a blunder.  Only narcissists and fascists would do this to the dealers.  Do you think the dealers want to see the owners of these companies show up and parade around like they know what they're doing?  The last thing a General Motors or Chrysler dealer wants is for Americans to know that the government owns their products.  People aren't going to buy 'em.  What are Pelosi's approval numbers?  Is there anybody outside MSNBC's evening audience that can stand to look at her?  Obama is radically divisive to the point where tens of millions of potential buyers would never buy anything remotely associated with him.  This is like, as I said, military leaders inspecting a bomb site in enemy territory and thinking surviving locals who lost family members will thank them for it?  I mean this is dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.  Go in there and say, "Hey, we're going to inspect our products! We're going to go in the Detroit auto show. We're going to see what our company is making here out there." Sigh…

Story #12: Why Helmet Head Dorgan Really Had to Quit

RUSH: There's a great story here from by John Kartch about why Byron Dorgan really quit, and it is an excellent point.  Byron Dorgan has gotten away in North Dakota, forever, portraying himself as a "moderate."  A lot of Democrats who are just card-carrying ACLU leftists have been getting away calling themselves "moderates" and what's happened is Byron Dorgan has been exposed now. The health care debate, all this spending, everything, the people in North Dakota don't like any of this and he can no longer win. He can't go back and say he's a moderate.  The Blue Dog Democrats in the House better pay attention to what happened to Byron Dorgan because that's why he's out. That's why he's going to get shellacked big time.  With Chris Dodd it's not the same thing but it's a big deal.
